this would seem to be my "upload my assignments!" night.
for our color and design class we had to go up to a random stranger and ask them about a dream they've had, then illustrate that dream from three different angles.
of course, none of us went up to a random stranger (except for Joel, who asked a Tibetan monk) and wound up mixing and matching the dreams of eachother with dreams we've had ourselves.
in keeping with the spirit of my classmates, i talked to my friend Simone who had a dream in which she proved the Twin Prime Conjuncture. if you actually know what that is, you're one of the smartest people i know. if not, here's a simplified explanation, because i still dont' wholly understand it myself:
there's a theory that relates to the sequencing of prime numbers. k+2, in that k is a prime number, will result in a sequence of pairs that line up sequentially in a sequence of prime numbers. (at least... i think...). the Twin Prime Conjuncture states that this sequence will go on forever, but the proof for it is long and complicated and no one's ever been able to prove it.
But Simone had a dream that she did it.
gratned, i dont' know from math, so i just made up a bunch of numbers, used some of the equations she'd mentioned in explaining it to me and then slapped a symbol for infinity on there and filled in the blanks with floating prime numbers. i'm sure i took some liberties with the visuals, but i think this looks neat.
there's actually a class called "math as art" here. i couldn't get in, but i friend of mine is taking it. for his final assignment he's going to knit a poem into a scarf in binary.
i'm totally taking the class next year

Twin prime conjecture: There are two versions which both go by the name twin prime conjecture. My guess is that the one you're thinking of is that the twin primes are two prime numbers with a space of two between them. Supposedly there are an infinite number of these, but nobody can prove this since, as far as I can tell, nobody has a set formula for calculating these (if tehy did, they could calculate it as x->infinity) Proofs that have appeared so far, most notably Arenstorf's which seems to have come closer, have all contained errors. At some point in the future it may be proved, but up until now nobody has
Anyway, nice piece. It actually looks kinda like a storyboard to me, where it seems to zoom out just as she finishes

Liking the angles, and the storyboard layout feel here. I honestly think that when ideas are set up in more of a thematic moment like this, with cool layout, it makes it way more interesting. The hand is rendered very nicely, and the top down views are pretty awesome; give the idea that this character has really stumbled onto something profound (hence, the big reveal at the end).
Sounds like an example called Hilbert's Hotel. The idea being that there's a hotel with infinite sets of rooms. No matter who leaves (or how many), the owner of the hotel can shift folks to so and such room, and the hotel would be packed again with guests, i.e., infinite. But if folks wanted to check in, rooms would be switched so as to make room, and the new arrivals would have a vacancy all to themselves. But the number of guests at the hotel would still be infinite (!), i.e., the number never increases or decreases, even though you've just successively added or subtracted from the number of guests in the hotel. As you can see, it's math theory, and works within the realm of math theory, but when it is comported over to a linear reality, it becomes absurd. It entails contradictions big time. I don't fully understand it myself, but have only read on it as it pertains to the idea of "Is the universe finite or infinite?", etc. Wheeee.....math in the morning......my head is spinning.......not.....good...........
The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

I've always had a soft spot for mathematical equations as part of art (never had much use for them otherwise. *snort*)
I like the last panel best.
